Benchrest Rifle Matches

Open to the Public - Second Sunday of each month at 10:00 am beginning April 2020. No preregistration is required. See the club calendar for reserved ranges.

Outdoor Rifle Matches

Rimfire and Centerfire Rifle matches, both benchrest and offhand, will be available.

Pick up targets, pay fees ($1 participation fee for members, $4 participation fee for non-members and $4 per match) and turn in scoresheets.

General Rules For Benchrest

All shooting must be done from a rest or sandbags. No clamping or return-to-battery rest allowed. Rifles must be capable of being lifted straight up. Times are flexible and may be altered from time to time. 

Heavy Varmint (for smallest group)

The following rules apply to the monthly club Heavy Varmint Rifle matches, both ‘A” and ‘B’ class:

  • GUN: Any centerfire rifle weighing less than 13-1/2 pounds
  • SIGHTS: Any sights or any scope
  • DISTANCE: 100 yards
  • TARGET: NBRSA or IBS 100 yard target
  • STANCE: All shooting must be done from rests or sandbags
  • COURSE OF FIRE: 5 Targets. Each target consists of at least 5 record shots on the record portion of the target. (Unlimited shots permitted on the sighter portion of the target.) Targets are usually posted 2 or 3 targets at a time and shot within a 20-minute relay. The times may be altered by the Rangemaster to accommodate the field of shooters.
  • SCORING: The distance between the two most widely spaced shots on the record portion of the target will be measured and recorded. The lowest aggregate of 5 targets will win.
  • OTHER: An average of the best six yearly matches of .300” or less moves the shooter to ‘A’ class the following year.

22 IR 50/50

The following International Rimfire 50/50 Association Rules apply to the monthly club 22 IR 50/50 rifle matches:

  • GUN: Limited to 22 LR caliber
  • SIGHTS: Any type for 10.5 lbs and 13.5 lbs. classes. Maximum 6.5 power scope for the 7.5 lbs. class
  • DISTANCE: 50 yards
  • TARGET: IR 50/50
  • STANCE: All shooting must be done from rests or sandbags
  • COURSE OF FIRE: One target 25 record shots, one shot in each bullseye and unlimited sighters in 30 minutes.
  • SCORING: Point scoring.
    • High Score – High X
    • 250-25X maximum
  • OTHER: Classes are split: 7.5 lbs (Sporter), 10.5 lbs. and 13.5 lbs class

Varmint Benchrest (for high score)

The following NBRSA rules apply to the monthly club Varmint Benchrest matches:

  • GUN: Any centerfire rifle weighing less than 13-1/2 pounds
  • SIGHTS: Any sights or any scope
  • DISTANCE: 100 yards
  • TARGET: NBRSA/IBS 100 yard Hunter Benchrest target
  • STANCE: All shooting must be done from rests or sandbags
  • COURSE OF FIRE: 5 Targets. Each target contains 5 record bullseyes and one for sighters. One shot is to be fired on each record bullseye with unlimited shots into the sighter. Targets are usually posted 2 or 3 at a time and shot within a 20 minute relay.
  • SCORING:
    • High score – High X
    • 250-25X maximum
  • OTHER: An average of the best six yearly matches of 235 or higher moves the shooter to ‘A’ class the following year.

22 Rimfire Hunter (for high score)

The following rules apply to the 22 Rimfire matches, both ‘A’ and ‘B’ class:

  • GUN: Limited to 22 LR caliber
  • SIGHTS: Any type, unlimited scope
  • DISTANCE: 100 yards
  • TARGET: 200 yard Hunter Benchrest target
  • STANCE: All shooting must be done from rests or sandbags
  • COURSE OF FIRE: 5 Targets. Each target contains 5 record bullseyes and one for sighters. One shot is to be fired on each record bullseye with unlimited shots into the sighter. Targets are usually posted 2 or 3 at a time and shot within a 20 minute relay.
  • SCORING: Point scoring.
    • High score – High X
    • 250-25X maximum
  • OTHER: An average of the best six yearly matches of 235 or higher moves the shooter to ‘A’ class the following year.

Junior .22 Benchrest

The following rules apply to the monthly club Junior .22 benchrest rifle matches:

  • GUN: Any rimfire rifle
  • SIGHTS: Any iron sights or any scope
  • DISTANCE: 50 yards
  • TARGET: ASC ‘Club’ target
  • STANCE: All shooting must be done from rests or sandbags.
  • COURSE OF FIRE: 5 Targets, 5 shots in each target. Targets are usually posted 2 or 3 at a time and shot within a 20-minute relay. Unlimited sighters on pre-marked sighter club target
  • SCORING: Point scoring.
    • High score – high X
    • 250-25X maximum

.22 Barnyard/CMP Benchrest

The purpose of Aurora Sportsmen’s Club Barnyard Benchrest is to promote the shooting sport in a competition that will get new shooters involved in the sport in a fun environment at a reasonable cost.

  • GUN for Barnyard Class:
    • .22 Rimfire, any repeating action rifle is allowed.
    • Original stock, barrel, and trigger are to be used.
    • Glass bedding, trigger job and recrowning of barrel is allowed.
    • No barrel tuners are permitted.
    • Rifles must weigh 7.5 lbs or less with scope and optional bipod.
    • Scope must be 9x or less (variable scope permitted if set at 9x or less)
  • GUN for CMP Class:
    • Any .22 rimfire rifle purchased through the CMP (or equivalent civilian rifle)
    • “Barnyard Class” rules apply except:
    • No weight restriction.
    • Action may be a single shot
    • Unlimited scope
  • DISTANCE: 50 yards
  • TARGET: One Barnyard target with 20 record bulls and 3 sighter bulls
  • STANCE: Benchrest, any sand bag style rests may be used. A front bipod may be used, but will be considered as part of the total weight of the rifle.
  • COURSE OF FIRE: One shot per record bullseye, unlimited sighters
  • SCORING: Point scoring, 200 maximum
