How to Play the Games: 5-Stand/Trap/Skeet

ASC is offering members, guest and the public a chance to learn how to play Skeet, Trap and 5-stand starting at 9 am.  This is a great opportunity to learn the games with other beginners or novice shooters to the games.  We will teach you the rules, basic strategies, use of the target releases (manual or wireless), and teach you how to arm/disarm machines and other safety tips, so you can get your key to the skeet/trap houses (members only).  This is a very casual class and the instruction and key is free.  Each shooter will pay $5 per game to cover the cost of the clays. So plan on $15 to shoot the three games.

Come to the skeet/trap shelter at 8:45 am with: any gauge shotgun, safety glasses, hearing protection and at least 3 boxesof target load, lead or steel ammunition in shot sizes 7 1/2, 8, or 9.

We will meet at the skeet shelter and put you in groups of five!

We will also have brats, sausages, hot dogs, chips and drinks after the classes.

Please help us organize the classes by pre registering at: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Practical Rifle

ASC Practical Rifle is an action rifle match intended for skills development and casual competition, with a relaxed atmosphere and a lot of fun! This is an opportunity to get your rifle "off the bench" and challenge your marksmanship skills while developing new skills most shooters can't practice on a range.

Participants will face new scenarios each month, with two short-range engagement stages, and one medium range engagement stage at either 100 or 200 yards. Shooters will be "scored" based on stage time plus penalties.

Shooters should bring a semi-automatic rifle and plan on firing up to 150 rounds. Up to 4 magazines may be utilized on a single stage, and your favorite mag retention system is encouraged. We do not impose limitations on firearms or ammunition; all calibers and legal equipment is welcome. Optics are shooters choice, iron sights, red-dots, and magnified optics are all welcome. Practical Rifle is a great opportunity to gain experience with all your gear!

Whether pre-registered or on-site registered, you must be present for CHECK-IN* AT LEAST 15 minutes before the published start time. Shooters not present for check-in will forfeit their spot. Check-In occurs at the Registration desk on the East Side Bays.
AT 15 MINUTES BEFORE THE PUBLISHED START TIME, we will start promptly with a Roll Call followed by a Safety Brief. Immediately following the Safety Brief, squads will walk to their start stage. All shooters must have event gear ready and in their possession before the Safety Brief begins.

* 'CHECK-IN' means you are confirmed present with the registration table. If you are late, we will assign your spot to someone who arrived on time and you will be added to the bottom of the 'Space-Available Signup Sheet'. Everyone must be at the safety brief in order to participate.

Check-in 8:30 am
Safety Brief 8:45 am

600 Yard Qualification

Local Contact Ed Janka  This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. 630-272-3187

10:00-12:00 Open to members only. Call Ed Janka 630-272-3187 for any questions.

The member will be asked these questions:
- What caliber are you shooting?
- What does your ballistic table show the bullet drop at 600 yards?
- Based on the bullet drop, how many Minutes of Angle (MOA) is that equal to?
- Based on the calculated MOA, how many clicks or Mil Dots were adjusted on your Scope/Sights for this MOA?
- All of the above information may be located on your phone, tablet, and notebook or printed out. The important factor is that the shooter fully understands the calculations for bullet drop out to 600 yards. If the information is not correctly answered, the member may not shoot to qualify.

Having satisfactorily proven the member knows long-range shooting data, they will be allowed to shoot 3-5 shots at a target set out at 600 yards. Their rounds must impact on or at least near (3-5 feet) the target in the SAFE area on the 9’ smaller berm. Impacts on the 50’ large berm are not safe. The shooter will be allowed to check the scope setting, make an adjustment, and shoot again. If the round impacts on the 50’ unsafe area again, they DO NOT qualify.
Shooters, who have safely completed the shooting test, will be issued a 600 Yard Certification Stickers to be placed on their badge, until such time as a new badge is issued. Non-Members will be given a business card with the sticker attached as proof of Certification for any future long-range events.
